Mortenson breaks ground on UW Softball Performance Center

On February 17, Mortenson’s team broke ground on the donor-funded project, which will provide year-round training resources to the university’s undeniably talented softball program and empower future generations of NCAA Division 1 athletes.

Work is now underway on the University of Washington’s new 5,500-square-foot Softball Performance Center. The female-led design-build team at Mortenson has adopted the UW Softball team’s motto: #MightyAreTheWomen.

Currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, the Washington Huskies will soon have access to a $5.25m, state-of-the-art indoor training facility conveniently located near the team’s home stadium.

Starting in the autumn/fall 2021, UW players will have access to the following amenities:

  • Hitting tunnels with automatic nets that can accommodate up to five players at one time
  • Mechanical system that can raise softball nets for infield drills on the facility’s AstroTurf
  • Training cameras installed through the centre that allow for performance reviews
  • Central sound system for music and internal team announcements, as well as sports broadcast lighting
  • Post-workout recovery system that supports light therapy exercises

Team work

Mortenson’s team is also committed to preserving the campus’ flora and fauna by actively conserving over 40 trees near the construction site and allotting space for an additional 30 trees.

The project encompasses progressive design-build delivery of a new indoor softball performance centre to enhance the day-to-day training needs of UW’s women’s softball program.

The new facility will provide a performance centre that is best in class in the Pac-12 to aid in recruitment of top softball players from around the country and serve as a multiple purpose facility to support batting, pitching and in-fielding training.
