Charles Johnston, Director of Property, Sport England, is one of the expert speakers at the 26th IAKS Congress

Physical activity for everyone

Charles Johnston is Director of Property at Sport England, the national sports confederation in England. We are looking forward to hearing him speak at the 26th IAKS Congress about the development of sports and leisure facilities in England.

The “Towards an active nation” strategy launched by Sport England seeks to increase the number of people who engage in sport and activity, not for its own sake but for the wider benefits it can bring, in terms of physical and mental wellbeing and individual, community and economic development. This means changing the balance of the investment to encourage inactive people to become active. So 25 per cent of the resources over four years, over GBP 250 million, is focused on this group – the largest investment in tackling inactivity ever made in England.

Developing active cities: Global strategies and initiatives

Kicking off the 4-day-conference the first session is devoted to international, national and local initiatives from around the globe. Charles Johnston and three more experts will present global strategies and planning models to make cities better places for active living.

Discover the IOC strategy on sustainable development. Learn about the “Global Active City Label and the Active Well-Being Initiative” which will be presented by TAFISA Secretary General Wolfgang Baumann. Don’t miss out on discussions with the panelists in regards to the big future issues and opportunities facing sport and management, during this session hosted by Populous Senior Principal Tom Jones from the United Kingdom.
