The entire city celebrated the official opening of Kai Tak Sports Park on 1 March. On this landmark day, a host of local and Mainland sports, cultural and performing arts elites of all ages and generations, as well as celebrities from film, television and music, gave their best performances to celebrate the grand opening of the Kai Tak Sports Park, creating a classic scene for all to enjoy!
The opening ceremony performances were themed around four main segments. The show began with energetic drumbeats and powerful dances, followed by dragon and lion dances entering the Stadium from all directions, symbolising the “grow and multiply without end” of Hong Kong.
Accompanied by powerful vocalists singing uplifting songs, showcasing the boundless energy of Hong Kong, symbolising the groundbreaking new Hong Kong landmark, officially making its debut to the world, welcoming various sporting and entertainment events to settle in Hong Kong, showcasing their brilliance at Kai Tak!
Celebrities and athletes from Hong Kong and China combined sports and music, themed around struggle and dreams, presenting a peak showdown between the International martial arts stars and Olympic champions, along with performances by emerging singers, inspiring every audience to strive for excellence!
A gathering of multi-generational local and mainland celebrity artists and athletes, including legendary champions who have repeatedly brought glory to the nation, current National and Hong Kong team elites, promoted national sports of China such as badminton and table tennis to showcase the profound Chinese culture to the world. They highlighted the integration and inheritance of sports culture, aiming to inherit past brilliance and create a new chapter.

At this grand opening ceremony, the performing guests showcased their talents to the audience, pushing the atmosphere of the venue to its peak in the fourth segment, demonstrating that Kai Tak Sports Park is ready to connect Hong Kong to the world, making the “Oriental Pearl” shine even brighter!
The grand finale of the choir segment represented Kai Tak Sports Park allowing various sectors of Hong Kong to showcase their talents and create endless possibilities for the future!
John Sharkey, CEO of Kai Tak Sports Park, said:

In addition to the exciting performances inside the venue, an LED dynamic light show was staged on the exterior walls of the main arena. With the same themes as the performance inside the Stadium, various celebratory phrases and patterns, combined with the colourful fireworks, illuminated Kai Tak in a magnificent and dazzling manner, visible from both sides of Victoria Harbour, projecting this groundbreaking new landmark with a radiant glow, symbolising Kai Tak Sports Park uniting all sectors to once again elevate the “Oriental Pearl” to new heights!
Partnership Collaboration Program
Kai Tak Sports Park announced the establishment of long-term partnerships with renowned local and international enterprises. This collaboration unites industry leaders, including the Premier Founding Partner HSBC, Founding Partners CTF Life, Cathay, Coca-Cola, HKT, and Marriott Bonvoy, along with other Official Partners and Official Suppliers.
The SVB LIVE series of events focus on elevating the live experience through Architecture & Design, Commercialisation, Customer Journey, Fan & Premium Experience, Hospitality, Interiors & Fit-Out, Sustainability and Technology. The 2025 SVB LIVE Conference & Exhibition is being held in the Lower Ground within the Holte Stand at Villa Park Stadium on October 6th and 7th.
Exciting Opening Month Events
The opening event also marks the beginning of “Hong Kong Super March”, with a series of exciting events scheduled throughout the “Opening Month” at Kai Tak Sports Park, further solidifying Hong Kong’s position as “The Premier Hub for Mega Events”.

Sharkey, said:
“In the following months, a variety of major sports and music events, as well as test matches for the National Games will be held in the Park. In November, the 15th National Games will feature competitions for the first time in Hong Kong, with four events taking place at Kai Tak Sports Park. The 12th National Disabled Persons’ Games and the 9th Special Olympics National Games (Special Olympics) will also have an event held at the sports park.
“We will spare no effort to ensure the successful staging of the event. We are committed to becoming a vibrant new landmark, offering exhilarating and unforgettable world-class sports, entertainment, and leisure experiences for visitors from Hong Kong, Asia, and around the globe.”
ASM Global, as the lead operator, has been on the ground in Hong Kong supporting the design, programming and construction of Kai Tak Sports Park, featuring many of the world’s most advanced state-of-the-art venues.
The Park includes a 50,000-capacity main stadium with the theme “Pearl of the Orient” as its design inspiration and boasting a retractable roof and flexible pitch surface that can host a wide range of events in any weather, including major sports events, concerts and MICE events.
There is also a 10,000-capacity indoor sports arena that meets the standard of major international tournaments for a wide range of athletics, including basketball, tennis, gymnastics, family shows and other entertainment events; a 5,000-spectator venue, open-to-the-public sports ground for hosting school sports days, athletic meets, local football and rugby matches, as well as team and athlete training sessions; and an outdoor recreation complex.
When awarded the contract for the design, build, construction and operation of the Kai Tak Sports Park, Kai Tak Sports Park Ltd assembled an unparalleled project team comprising overseas and local experts in design; retail sales and marketing; construction led by Hip Hing; and ASM Global for project management, premium sales and programming.
Project team members, ASM Global, Populous and SPORTFIVE are recognised global industry leaders with extensive experience in the design and operation of large scale international projects, as well as the management of major sports venues.
ARUP is providing total engineering design services including specialist services. Simon Kwan & Associated Limited is the Executive Architect and Authorised Person. ADI is the landscape designer.
