Liverpool FC is furthering its sustainability leadership by joining the pioneering Green Operations and Advanced Leadership (GOAL) global network.
LFC is the first Premier League club and UK-based sports organisation to join GOAL – a sustainability-driven membership network for sports and entertainment venues – to further solidify the club’s leadership in environmental and social governance.
As part of its membership to GOAL – a global platform that offers sustainability support through data collection, carbon emissions reporting and sustainability validation – LFC is committed to quantitative analysis of energy, water and waste data to track and reduce its carbon footprint, qualitative sustainability storytelling, driving forward initiatives under The Red Way and sharing best practice, collaboration and learning with other members.
In the club’s first year of participation in GOAL, it has achieved 12 GOAL medals across five categories, with eight awarded at the gold level. These accolades validate the club’s commitment to sustainability through its The Red Way strategy, having excelled in the areas of energy and missions, waste reduction, diversity and inclusion, ESG strategy and commitment and sustainable partnerships.
Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at LFC, said:
Joining GOAL and receiving this recognition is a testament to our strategic approach to sustainability through The Red Way and reflects the continued focus on integrating sustainability into every facet of the club’s operations and partnerships.
Our aim is to work closely with colleagues at GOAL to continually progress our work in this important area and enhance our efforts across all that we do. This is essential to the journey we are on to actively shape a better future for our people, our planet and our communities.
Jain recently attended and presented at GOAL’s invitational on the topic ‘Partnering for the Planet’, alongside representatives from the Atlanta Hawks and UBS Arena, discussing the critical role of sustainability-minded corporate partnerships in driving environmental impact.
SVB LIVE events focus on elevating the live experience at stadia, arenas, sporting & entertainment venues through architecture & design, customer journey, fan & VIP experience, hospitality & fit-out, premium sales & service, sustainability, technology and venue commercialisation.
These accolades add to an impressive list of awards for The Red Way, having recently been named ESG Programme of the Year at the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024, along with LFC being recognised as the most environmentally sustainable Premier League club for the second consecutive year in the Sport Positive League and listed as one of the top 10 most sustainable sports companies by Front Office Sports.
Kristen Fulmer, Head of Sustainability at Oak View Group and Executive Director of GOAL, said:
We’re excited to welcome Liverpool as the first Premier League club to join GOAL. Their dedication to measurable impact through The Red Way embodies the ambitious, data-driven approach needed to drive industry-wide transformation.
By joining GOAL, Liverpool FC amplifies its role as a sustainability leader, creating new pathways for incremental progress and setting a powerful example for sports organisations worldwide.
