Redevelopment work completed at Stuttgart’s MHP Arena

Renovation work at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart, Germany, has been completed ahead of this summer’s Euro 2024 Championships.

The lower part of the main stand at VfB Stuttgart’s home ground has been redeveloped to include improved hospitality areas, media facilities and a new Tunnel Club.

After spectators were allowed to sit in the new seats for the first time against Heidenheim, the stand and the new Mercedes-Benz Business Center was officially opened for the home match against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The work has taken around two years to complete: the new main stand of the MHP Arena not only has a shiny new look from the outside, but lots has also been going on inside over the past 25 months or so.

New main stand

Following the reconstruction, the MHP Arena has a capacity of 60,058 spectators. An additional 8,000m2 of usable space has been created below the main stand, which can be used for trade fairs, conferences and events. As many as eight of these events can be held at the same time.

Away from matchdays, the main stand and the Business Center inside it have been transformed into one of the largest conference centres in the region.

Last summer, 31 new places for wheelchair users were installed in the ‘Cannstatter Kurve’ end. The MHP Arena can now accommodate over 200 wheelchair users in total.

Mercedes-Benz Business Center and Porsche Tunnel Club

In addition to the exterior stand areas, the interior of the new main stand has also been completely refurbished.

As well as the modernisation of the Mercedes-Benz Business Center, another highlight is the new Porsche Tunnel Club. Covering an area of 360m2, it offers up to 200 visitors a unique experience in the heart of the MHP Arena.

The 360-degree glass façade provides an exclusive view of the teams before the game, during the interval and after the final whistle.

Forming the heart of the new main stand are the functional and dressing room areas for the first team and the adjoining media centre.

New LED floodlights are also being installed and photovoltaic panels installed on the roof.

As with previous renovation works at the MHP Arena, asp Architekten GmbH from Stuttgart were responsible for planning the architecture and design. ARGE 1893 was the General Contractor on the €139.5m project, funded by the city of Stuttgart and Stadion KG.
