Casal España Arena de València to be re-named Roig Arena

Licampa 1617 – a company owned by Juan Roig, Mercadona supermarket chain owner – has chosen the name ‘Roig Arena’ for the new Arena de València, the multi-purpose venue that is currently being built in the city. The new moniker answers the need to establish a clear, simple, identifiable name which acknowledges the Legacy of Juan Roig and his family.

Roig Arena, which has a budget of over €280m, fully paid for by Juan Roig with his personal wealth, will host all types of events, internationally positioning Valencia and the Valencian Community.

Additionally, according to the latest report by the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (Ivie), this venue (which will be handed over to the city of Valencia after 50 years), will contribute to generating approximately 300 jobs (direct and indirect) and an economic impact (GDP) in the city of Valencia of over €10m annually.

Works on the venue are currently in their second phase of execution – focused on the concrete and metal structure, roof, facade and formwork of the floors – after completion of the first phase, focused on the excavation, pile driving, screening walls and foundation slabs.  Phase 3 has yet to start and will focus on completion of the Arena.

Roig Arena, a city project

In addition to construction of the Roig Arena venue, the execution of additional infrastructure to revitalise the neighbourhood is planned, such as a car park with over 1,000 spaces, which is now under construction, the future public park with green areas, the new home of the Valencia Basket Club, a multi-purpose hall for various uses of over 1,200 square metres, restaurant areas and a wide range of premises, terraces and premium areas. All of this is in addition to the installations of the “Les Arts” public school of Valencia, which has already been opened.

The Legacy of Juan Roig

Licampa 1617 – Roig Arena falls within the framework of Juan Roig’s Legacy Project, and like its other initiatives, such as the Marina de Empresas, Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, Valencia Basket Club, and L’Alqueria del Basket, among others, Roig aims to share some of the large profits it earns with the city of Valencia and the Valencian Community, because “knowledge and money bring happiness… if you share them”.

Project Director architects on the development are ERRE Arquitecturra and HOK.
