Redcar becomes first racecourse in UK to welcome return of fans

English racing fans will once again experience the thrill of live horse racing when Redcar Racecourse opens its turnstiles to fans for the first time in 14 months today, Monday 17th May, 2021.

Redcar and Carlisle are the first two racecourses in England to reopen for spectators following step three of the UK Government’s road map out of lockdown, and after the green light was given to racing by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).

The return of fans to Redcar has been assisted by Future Ticketing, whose powerful software solution has provided multiple safety and compliance tools to ensure strict social distancing and attendance rules are in force.

Earlier this month, Future Ticketing assisted Jersey Reds to become the first rugby team in the UK to allow fans back inside the Santander International Stadium when the team hosted Nottingham.

Liam Holton, CEO of Future Ticketing, said:

The safe return of fans to racing at Redcar is another milestone on the journey towards normalising society following the pandemic. We are delighted to help enable the return of spectators to racing as the sport is not the same without the atmosphere generated by people at the racecourse cheering on their horses. Our team has worked really hard to add technology tools such as social distancing seating, temperature control scanning, strict capacity management and contact tracing to ensure fans could return to sport in a safe and compliant manner. We are delighted to work with the team at Redcar to ensure it is among the first two racecourses in England to welcome back fans.

Amy Fair, General Manager at Redcar, said:

We are delighted to welcome back spectators to Redcar in a safe environment. We have restricted capacity and have measures in place to maintain the safety of all attending. Tickets are available for all our race meetings in May and June and must be booked in advance. We have used Future Ticketing for a number of years so our customers were familiar with booking in advance of race meetings, while the system also made it very easy to collect the required information for all attendees in one location. Covid-19 has increased our workload throughout the racecourse, however being familiar with Future Ticketing, we were able to make some minor adjustments to match the requirements for race meetings.

Other racecourses using Future Ticketing solutions include Beverly Racecourse, Catterick Racecourse, Fakenham Racecourse, Ludlow Racecourse, Pontefract Racecourse and Ripon Racecourse.

Separately, Future Ticketing will also provide the ticketing solution for the Point to Point meeting at Dulverton West, Bratton Down in Devon on 17th May. The company already provides pre-registration of participants, stewards and officials for the Point to Point Secretaries Association.
