Parma Calcio unveils designs for revamp of Stadio Tardini

Italian Serie A side Parma Calcio has named the architecture studio that will undertake the project to redesign the Stadio Tardini.

Winning the selection process was the Studio Zoppini, which has specialised in the technically complex design of public sports facilities since 1961, with 15 sports venues and over 50 other facilities in their portfolio.

Alessandro Zoppini has been a partner in the firm since 1996. He has been chosen to lead many overseas projects thanks to his particular strengths in the realm of international stadium design and almost 30 years of experience in sports architecture, culminating in contributions to three Olympic GamesTorino 2006, Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018, where the Studio designed award-winning arenas.

President and Owner of Parma Calcio, Kyle Krause, said:

We are enthusiastic and totally convinced with the choice we’ve made; the ability in the world of sports and beyond, expressed worldwide by Studio Zoppini, is exactly what we were looking for.

Studio Zoppini has a unique approach and methodology; they’re environmentally conscious and by extent conscious of the city and its citizens, of businesses and the local area.

Parma Calcio have appointed Studio Zoppini to oversee the architectural quality and functional design of the new stadium.

Alessandro Zoppini, Partner at Studio Zoppini, said:

Coming first in this selection process is a success, which makes us extremely proud. Taking part in the first sustainable redevelopment project for an Italian stadium is an unquestionable honour for us, and participating in its realisation will mean playing a role in a fundamental shift in the world of football, as well as in environmental sports engineering and architecture.

He added:

Our project will give life to a sustainable stadium with a unique atmosphere: a renovated home, in which the fans will be close to the action. The new Tardini, which is inspired by the past and the history of Parma yet projected to the future, will provide more than 20,000m2 of public space, open every day at the service of the community and, above all, the next generation, becoming a place of gathering and inclusion. Its unique and innovative nature will see it become a point of reference for future stadia and an icon for the City.

Thanks to Mr. Kyle Krause, the Club and to Krause Group for the trust in our work and to all of those who participated in developing the concept in particular Buro Happold and Forward Associates, and to Arcadis who are managing the project.
