AFC Wimbledon return to their all-new Plough Lane home

AFC Wimbledon played their first match in their brand-new stadium against Doncaster Rovers FC in an entertaining 2-2 draw this week. The Sky Bet League One club’s long-awaited return to Plough Lane is the culmination of a fan-owned rebirth that started over 18 years ago.

Designed by award-winning architecture and design practice, KSS, the new Plough Lane, which is on the site of the now-demolished Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, boasts an initial capacity of 9,300.

The main West Stand includes four floors and three tiers with dedicated hospitality and dining spaces, fan areas, media facilities, conferencing suites, museum, club shop and twelve executive boxes looking down on to the pitch.

KSS worked with Buckingham Group on the redesign of the stadium, which will eventually expand to 20,000 seats by connecting all four corners to create a bowl-shaped arena.

KSS Director, Nick Marshall, said:

KSS has had a long relationship with AFC Wimbledon and assisted the club in compliance and upgrade works at Kingsmeadow and we are delighted to be the architect that has helped in their historic return to Plough Lane.

KSS Architect, Charlotte Yates, said:

We’re delighted to have played a role in AFC Wimbledon’s return to Plough Lane. Despite the challenges of the last six months, it’s wonderful to see the stadium finally open and it is a fantastic achievement for all those involved.

AFC Wimbledon Stadium Project Manager, Joe Giordano, added:

We couldn’t have done it without KSS, thank you to the whole team.

We look forward to seeing the stadium full in the future and new history being made.
