76 companies in the running to transform 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia host venue

The submission period of the open international competition for the development of a masterplan of the territory adjacent to the Samara Arena stadium, one of the key objects of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, has ended. In total, 27 applications were submitted from 15 countries.

 

Registrations came from all over the world, with some 127 applicants from 28 countries registered to participate in the competition.

 

To apply, participants had to provide a relevant portfolio of their projects and an essay describing their vision of the competitive territory development. 27 participants sent their applications to the Organising Committee. These included 76 companies: with 7 to participate individually and the remaining 69 companies to compete as part of 20 multinational consortia.

 

There are companies from 27 cities of 15 countries among the participants. Most of the applicants are from Russia. Great Britain became the leader in the number of companies among foreign ones – 8 companies will take part in the competition, followed by Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Also, companies from Belarus, Finland, France, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA will join the fight.

 

Three finalists, who will continue the struggle in the second stage of the competition and offer their vision of the masterplan of the territory with a total area of 360 hectares adjacent to the Samara Arena stadium, will be selected at the first jury meeting, chaired by the governor of the Samara Region, Dmitry Azarov.

The objective

To develop an effective and economically sound concept of integrated development of the territory located around the Samara Arena stadium.

 

Prize fund

The three finalists who develop the final bids will be paid a fee totaling 2,400,000 rubles, including all taxes and fees.

 

Following a meeting of the jury, the finalists, will receive an additional payment in accordance with prize distribution, including all taxes and fees, in the following amounts:

 

• Winner – 3,600,000 rubles
• Second place – 2,400,000 rubles
• Third place – 1,200,000 rubles

 

The total Prize Fund, including all taxes and fees, will be 14,400,000 rubles.

Jury meeting on the selection of the finalists postponed 

Due to the situation in the country and in the world, stemming from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, and due to the special sanitary-epidemiological regime on the territory of the Russian Federation and, in particular, the Samara Region, a face-to-face meeting of the jury and the selection of the finalists of the competition for the development of a masterplan for the territory adjacent to the Samara Arena stadium, scheduled for 26 March, has been postponed until the second half of May; the precise date to be confirmed.
