The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has embarked upon a US$605m Capital Improvement Plan – due for completion in 2023 – for two Campus Master Plan projects on the North-South Building.
The two projects in question being:
- Convention Way Grand Concourse – an enclosed connection between the North and South concourses that includes an additional 60,000SF in meeting space and an 80,000SF ballroom. It provides a new grand entry to the North/South building along Convention Way.
- Multipurpose Venue – a 200,000SF, flexible, divisible, column-free space with a combination of retractable and floor seating to accommodate between 18,000-20,000 guests. This project will also incorporate connectivity between the North and South concourses.

From Marketing Feasibility Study to Final Budget Approval:

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners (Orange County BCC) approved the architectural and engineering design services contract with Populous + C.T. Hsu, a Joint Venture, for the OCCC’s North-South Building Expansion.
Speaking about the appointment of the Populous + C.T. Hsu JV, OCCC Acting Executive Director David Ingram, said:
We are pleased to begin work with Populous + C.T. Hsu, a Joint Venture on a project that will significantly improve the convention center as we continue to meet the growing needs of our clients. Populous + C.T. Hsu, a Joint Venture, has a long-standing partnership with our community that will be advantageous in planning and implementing these projects.
The total contract award amount is US$38,389,062. The decision was made at the Dec. 17 BCC meeting.
The first design team meeting for the North-South Building Expansion took place on December 19 at the OCCC.

Orange County BCC are scheduled to consider presentations from two A/E firms to select one firm for staff to enter into negotiations.

The BCC approves contract for OCCC to hire AECOM Technical Services, Inc. to provide owner’s representative services for the North-South Building Improvements project.
