Selhurst Park Main Stand given the go-ahead

Last week, Crystal Palace Football Club (CPFC) achieved a recommendation for approval from Croydon Council for the redevelopment of the KSS-designed Main Stand at Selhurst Park.

Inspired by the club’s rich heritage, KSS’ design pays homage to the original iconic Crystal Palace on Sydenham Hill, and would see the capacity at the stadium increase from 26,000 to more than 34,000. The five-storey ‘centrepiece’ incorporates the soaring wings of the Eagle in a dramatic reimagination and redevelopment of Selhurst Park.

The plans also include improved facilities for disabled supporters, premium hospitality services, entertainment facilities for more than 2,500 fans and between 16-28 boxes, which will give members a unique vantage point as the players prepare for matches.

Guy Wickett, CPFC Development Manager, said;

We are very pleased with the design and work that KSS carried out to support this complex planning application, this is a fantastic opportunity and an example of how, with the right direction and a collaborative approach teams can achieve success, beyond the confines of the ‘standard process’ followed by so many consultants.

KSS Director, Nick Marshall, said after the committee decision:

We are delighted that full planning consent for the Main Stand has been achieved. The project team has worked very hard on the scheme and we look forward to delivering this fantastic project. Our designs will transform the match-day experience for supporters providing new facilities for the community whilst retaining and enhancing one of the best atmospheres in English football.

The project is likely to take up to three years to complete, with the existing Main Stand fully operational throughout construction, which is expected to start late 2018.
