TYPE OF VENUE:
The newly-named Optus Stadium (i.e. the new Perth Stadium) will be a 60,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, open for the start of the 2018 Australian Rules Football (AFL) season.
MAIN TENANT/S, SPORTING CODE/S & DETAILS ON MULTI-FUNCTIONALITY:
Optus Stadium will be multi-purpose accommodating AFL, cricket, rugby league and union, soccer and entertainment events. The venue also has the capability to host major events consistent with the requirements for Commonwealth Games and international athletics.
The Stadium has a large number of premium spaces that will accommodate a range of conferences, conventions, weddings and private functions of different scales (maximum 1,500 people in function room) on non-game days.
The multi-purpose, 60,000-seat Optus Stadium will be a world-class venue upon opening in early 2018.
The commitment to a ‘fans first’ stadium has resulted in an innovative design ensuring an exceptional event atmosphere and home ground advantage that can only be experienced by being there.
The venue can accommodate AFL, cricket, rugby league and union, soccer and entertainment events. The venue also has the future capability to host major events consistent with the requirements for Commonwealth Games and international athletics.
The Stadium will offer the widest range of seating and hospitality options of any stadia in Australia. Seats will be as close to the on-field action as possible, regardless of the event and incorporate state-of-the-art technology including the two largest video boards of any stadium in the southern hemisphere.
Surrounding the Stadium is an activated Park that includes restaurants, children’s playgrounds, picnic and BBQ facilities, plus a network of bike paths – all accessible 365 days a year.
Public art will also be incorporated across the Stadium and the surrounding Stadium Park, enhancing the visual appeal of the area, celebrating West Australian sporting and cultural achievements whilst assisting with orientation and navigation for visitors.
A range of public transport infrastructure has been integrated into the design of the Stadium and surrounding Park and will move 83% of a capacity crowd. Patrons will be able to use a new six-platform rail station, bus stands as well as a new pedestrian bridge linking the Burswood Peninsula to East Perth. A free shuttle bus service from East Perth will provide access to more than 40,000 car bays across the CBD.
DETAILS ON THE KEY SPORTING & NON-SPORTING EVENTS TO BE HELD AT THE VENUE:
Australian Rules Football (AFL) will be a regular fixture at Perth Stadium with pre-season, regular league games and home game finals.
Agreement has been reached with Cricket Australia ensuring that ten days of International Cricket and all Big Bash League matches will be played at Perth Stadium.
English Premier League (EPL) powerhouse Chelsea will play against Perth Glory in an international friendly match at Perth Stadium in late July or early August 2018.
Additionally, in 2019 the NRL State of Origin II and Bledisloe Cup are set to be played at Perth Stadium. This is a fantastic result for sport lovers and the local tourist industry which is set to benefit from thousands of visitors to the State.
