Spectacular 63,000-capacity stadium to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup

Pattern together with Buro Happold have won the concept design competition hosted by Dalian Wanda Group for a new 63,000-capacity stadium, which will be a host venue for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and the new home of Chinese Super League’s Dalian Professional FC.

Located on an incredible site on the waterfront of Dalian – a major city and seaport in the south of Liaoning Province – the spectacular new stadium will sit on a reclaimed peninsula, west of the port, boasting dramatic views across the bay.

The design has been inspired by the stadium’s unique location and the materials of the façade give a shimmering feel to the building as the different shells appear to float and twist within each other. At night, the stadium will be a spectacle of lighting reflecting off the sweeping building form.

The new Dalian stadium features a 1.6km tourist walking route from the podium to the roof, providing spectators with a breathtaking view of Dalian Bay and the community sports and leisure park to the East of the building.
