Major League Cricket (MLC) franchise Washington Freedom has broken ground on its new 10,000-capacity home in Frederick, Maryland, USA.
The Frederick Park development is a significant step toward creating a permanent home for Washington Freedom and building a vibrant new hub for sports and recreation in the region.
The project is projected to generate $13 million+ in annual venue-related economic activity, $1.7 million+ in annual public tax revenue, 53 full-time equivalent jobs, and approximately 4,000 hotel nights annually, creating opportunities for local businesses, hospitality and tourism.
Washington Freedom is owned by technology entrepreneur Sanjay Govil, Founder and Chairman of Infinite.
Planned for the Gateway property at 8400 East Patrick Street, the development will bring together professional cricket, opportunities for youth and amateur athletes, and publicly accessible green space along the Monocacy River.
The 2026 SVB LIVE Conference & Exhibition – focused on elevating the live experience – took place at Everton FC’s Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this month, with an Opening Night Icebreaker at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium. Check out the Day 1 highlights video here.
Plans include a professional cricket field, practice nets, a fan park, recreational spaces, a waterfront public park, woodland meadows, and preserved green space.
The groundbreaking comes as cricket prepares to return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028.
Washington Freedom has been part of Major League Cricket’s growth in the United States, winning the championship in 2024 and returning to the finals in 2025 and 2026.
Sanjay Govil, Founder and Chairman, Infinite, said
“We’re thrilled to welcome a community-first cricket park for the Washington Freedom Cricket Team of Major League Cricket in Frederick, Maryland. It’s an important milestone for the growth of cricket in the United States and a meaningful step forward as we build momentum towards the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.”
The groundbreaking follows a multi-year collaboration involving Washington Freedom, City of Frederick officials, local leaders, and community organizations. With rezoning approved, the development is moving into its next phase, including building the cricket pitch.
