Musco Lighting and Tottenham Hotspur have launched an innovative Training and Recreation Centre in London, England. Musco’s Mini-Pitch System™ now forms the centrepiece of the N17 Arena, located on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium site.
The Challenge
One of the most storied clubs in the English Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club unveiled the new, state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April of 2019.
In addition to providing a superior matchday experience, the club wanted to find ways to utilise the new stadium in further engaging the North London community; discover new young talent for its Training Academy and Global Development Team; and serve as a recreational hub for local youth, families and schools.
The Solution
The club reached out to Musco Lighting, the Official Field of Play Lighting Supplier at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, to partner in creating a solution. Together, they moved ahead with the installation of two Musco Mini-Pitch System™ modular sports solutions on the southeast side of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium campus.
The Mini-Pitch Systems are complete solutions with fencing, goals, LED lights featuring Musco’s TLC for LED® technology, lockable storage, and ADA-compliant access.
One of the mini-pitches features an astroturf surface, and the other a revolutionary playing surface from Nike Grind made of 18,000 recycled training shoes.
Streamlined and Durable
As complete, modular systems, the two mini-pitches at the N17 Arena offered simple and streamlined installation in less than a week, with all necessary components arriving at the same time and engineered to work together. They’re constructed of galvanised steel and chain netting to ensure they withstand harsh weather elements well into the future.
Tottenham Talent ID Centre
N17 Arena’s astroturf mini-pitch will be used as an inner-city football talent ID centre by Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy and Global Football Development Team.
Local primary schools will select gifted players, both boys and girls, aged 6-11 to take part in six-week programmes with the opportunity to progress to Academy Development Centre sessions, also at N17 Arena.
Matchday Activities and Entertainment
N17 Arena will host fun and exciting matchday activities and events for fans attending Hotspur matches as well as the surrounding community. These free sporting activities and matchday activations will, at the same time, create an innovative new entertainment destination and serve as another valuable connection between club and community.
Weekly Community Activities and Usage
In addition to matchday activities and entertainment, the Nike Grind court at N17 Arena will be open and accessible Mondays through Fridays with timetabled free sporting activities. Some of these include after-school multi-sports for young people aged 8-18; fitness exercise, and weight management sessions for local residents; walking football for older residents; and disability sports provisions.
Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director, Tottenham Hotspur and Trustee, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said:
We cannot stress enough the importance of facilities like this existing in the heart of our communities – providing the opportunity for local people to take part in fun, sporting activities in a structured way with our fantastic coaches overseeing. We are extremely grateful to Musco for this invaluable contribution to Tottenham.
Kim Van Dijk, VP Nike Football Partnerships, EMEA, said:
Nike Grind is part of our vision for a more circular future, one where the concept of waste no longer exists. As we continue on our mission to protect the future of sport, we’re excited to bring this innovation to the N17 Arena, in partnership with Tottenham Hotspur, whilst providing a safe space for the local community to play.
