FC Krasnodar Stadium & the world’s first panoramic stadium screen make their big debut

The first match at the brand new FC Krasnodar Stadium was played by the Russia national team on October 9, 2016, with a friendly against Costa Rica, during which fans were treated to messages via the world’s first panoramic stadium screen.

The first home match of the Club will take place later this week, on 20 October 2016, when FC Krasnodar will meet FC Schalke 04 from Germany in the MD 3 of the UEFA Europa League group stage.

One of the key technological features of FC Krasnodar Stadium is quite evidently its LED video display, which was installed back in July, and totals 4,800sqm. The curved video solution encircles the entire inner perimeter of the bowl in this one-of-a-kind installation. The display is composed of outdoor panels with 16mm pixel pitch and 8,000 nits’ brightness, and has been installed between the roof and stands.

According to supermarket tycoon Sergey Galitsky, Club Chairman & Owner, the Stadium meets all the requirements needed to host matches of UEFA and FIFA; although it unfortunately will not feature as a host venue for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ in Russia, it will certainly be used as a training base during the tournament.

The Stadium, which it is claimed is one of the world’s most functional facilities dedicated exclusively to football, sits on an oval footprint and rises to 42.8m. It was designed by Russian architects SPeeCH, who worked alongside gmp Architekten and Schlaich Bergermann & Partners, with the final stadium design delivering a clear, simple and elegant form, resembling the Roman Coliseum.

Due to the use of advanced technologies and its numerous high-end finishes, Galitsky estimated that FC Krasnodar Stadium cost more than RUB 20 bn (US$316m upon handover on September 30, 2016), making it the most expensive private stadium ever to be built in Russia and one of the world’s most expensive venues in the ‘price per seat’ category.

Stadium Stats

Construction of the new FC Krasnodar Stadium was launched in April 2013 and it was commissioned in September 2016. The two-tier venue’s capacity is 34,291, including 3,197 persons hosted in the VIP seats and in the sky boxes. Behind the VIP seating area, VIP functions, such as restaurants, bars and meeting rooms, are located in a cantilevering horizontal glass volume, along the west side of the facade.

The dressing rooms for the players and referees, as well as the press area, are located on the ground floor under the first tier. All other support functions and technical rooms are located under the east side of the first tier.

Spectators enter via the large stairs located around the entire building. This allows for an easy and quick flow of people before and after the games, and during different events. Along the outside of both tiers vending areas are located for the spectators.

The pitch is situated on ground level to allow easy access of maintenance equipment, such as trucks, as well as fire trucks and ambulances.

Spectators are covered by a large translucent cantilevering roof, which allows for natural daylight to enter the building. Around the stadium numerous parking facilities are located, assuring convenient access.

The stadium’s roof, which is of a special cable-stayed design, covers all of the seats and the stands are equipped with an infrared heating system to guarantee maximum comfort for fans.

A giant media screen with an area of 4,700sqm has been installed along the whole perimeter of the bowl, making it the world’s first panoramic stadium screen.

The football pitch (with the playing area measuring 105 by 68m) was built with an application of all modern technologies including heating, forced aeration and artificial lawn lighting.

A park with an area of 21 hectares is also being built by the stadium.

Fans travelling to the venue by car, can avail of some 1,807 parking spaces on Generala Trosheva Street, with a further 249 spaces in the parking lot inside the stadium.

The technical capabilities of the stadium will allow it to stage fixtures of any tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA.

You can take a walk through the stadium in this special 3D virtual tour.
