Northampton Town pushing ahead with East Stand development

EFL League One club Northampton Town have presented plans and CGIs for the new East Stand at Sixfields Stadium.

Northampton Town’s East Stand has remained incomplete since construction work stopped in 2014 due to a contractual dispute.

Once the stand is finished, the capacity of the stadium would increase to more than 8,200 and give the club its first pitch-facing hospitality with executive boxes.

Some of the highlights of the new East Stand include:

• Club’s first ever pitch facing hospitality in its 127-year history with executive boxes
• Introduction of over a hundred new parking spaces with 8 EV charging spaces
• Return of the accessible viewing platform for supporters who use wheelchairs
• Two new large dining areas
• Full service commercial kitchen
• New link road around the stadium
• Concourse area with kiosks and screens
• Stadium capacity will rise to just over 8,200

Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2025.

The club formally completed a deal to allow it to finish work after West Northamptonshire Council agreed to sell land to the club in February.

The new East Stand will also see the installation of a new link road around the stadium, and concourse area with kiosks and screens.

The club said that after much discussion and consultation with fans, volunteers and stakeholders, it has been decided any Fans Village type environment will be better placed on the West Stand side of the stadium.

Construction firm GRS are already on site having completed clearing of the site. The construction of their site compound has begun, and they will be fully on site in the close season.

There will be a construction phase, a testing phase and an operational ramp up phase with a target opening in the first quarter of 2025.

Working alongside GRS, the club will be looking to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum, and GRS will do as much work as they can during the close season and on days/weeks when there are no matches at Sixfields.
