Build begins on Nassau County International Cricket Stadium

Construction has kicked off on Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, host of the inaugural T20 World Cup in the United States.

The ground-breaking venue, designed by Populous, will host the tournament this June and marks a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to fostering the growth of cricket and providing world-class facilities for athletes and fans alike.

The newly constructed temporary stadium will bring 34,000 fans from across the globe to Long Island on June 3rd for the commencement of the T20 World Cup.

The much-anticipated face-off between rivals Pakistan and India will be held on June 9th.

The stadium’s design utilises sustainable, temporary solutions while meeting the stringent cricket standards that the ICC has in place — offering a world-first for the sport.

The grandstands, originally used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, are being repurposed for the primary general admission seats, while over 80,000 square feet of hospitality space will include a party deck, fan suites, cabanas and VIP clubs, offering an unparalleled experience.

Additionally, a variety of food and beverage outlets will help provide a top-tier experience for all guests attending the largest ICC event ever, in addition to strategically placed media and broadcast areas.

The drop-in pitch, designed and curated in Australia, is being grown in Florida and will be transported to New York in early May, offering one of the finest wickets in the world.

The development of the pitch is being overseen by Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions and the outfield cultivated by LandTek Group, the sports turf experts responsible for the fields for the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Inter Miami’s stadium and training fields.

As part of its comprehensive construction plan, LandTek Group has already executed tasks essential to beginning the stadium’s development, including installation of fencing around the premises to secure the site and lay the groundwork for subsequent construction phases and installation of drainage systems to accept water from the natural pitch construction. Laser grading to prepare the subgrade for construction of the pitch has begun.

The process of procuring, assembling and growing the portable pitches is in full stride at LTG Sports Turf One, LandTek’s Florida-based division.

Adelaide Oval’s Head Curator Damian Hough is part of the LandTek team assisting in pitch preparation.

Steve Kuzmiskas, Senior Project Manager, said:

We are incredibly excited to embark on this journey of building a temporary cricket stadium that will set new standards in the world of sports infrastructure.

Alchemy Project Services is the Construction Management Firm on the project. The Parker Company is also providing FF&E and OS&E procurement services.
