LICAMPA 1617 revealed its design for the €220m arena, the enterprise has created a legacy project for the city of Valencia.
Funded by Juan Roig, a leading Spanish figure, the arena is designed by award-winning sports architecture firm, HOK and local architecture practice, ERRE. The arena is a multipurpose venue that is set to become a premier destination for music, arts, culture and sporting events.
The new Arena is an exciting, memorable and highly visible addition to the city’s rich architecture. Valencia Arena will also include a 1,200m² multipurpose room, a 1,300-capacity car park (both underground and multi storey) and will be the new and future headquarters of both the men and women’s Valencia Basket Club.
The neighbourhood will be further invigorated and revitalised with the construction of complimentary buildings such as a 20,000 m2 public park creating new green space, new build facilities for local school ‘Les Arts’.
Spectator capacity will be 15,600 seated or 18,600 standing, with visitors able to enjoy a diverse range of premium hospitality products and a seating bowl designed to create an intimate experience.
The highly flexible design enables the venue to attract a wide range of entertainment events, including music, the arts, culture and sports initiatives.
John Rhodes, Director of Sports and Entertainment at HOK’s London Studio, said:
The exciting design for Valencia Arena is a tribute to the ambitions of LICAMPA 1617 and HOK is delighted to have partnered ERRE in realising this aspiration. The venue is a breath-taking blend of multifunctionality, comfort, security, atmosphere and sustainability. We are confident that we are designing a world-class sports and entertainment destination that will be a valuable asset for the local economy, as well as a nationwide attraction.
Amparo Roig, Co-Founder of ERRE Arquitectura, added:
We are delighted to accomplish this project together with HOK, a very professional team of architects, and being part of making our city Valencia more remarkable.
Valencia Arena is expected to create more than 300 jobs and generate €10m per year for the local economy.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020, with completion due in 2023.
