Work is continuing apace at the site of the New Anoeta, which will open its doors next month for Spanish LaLiga side Real Sociedad’s first game.
The City Council of San Sebastián, The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, The Basque Government and Real Sociedad visited the stadium last week in order to keep up to date with the works progress, with Real Sociedad’s first game at The New Anoeta to take place in a month.
All the institutions were satisfied with the progress made and highlighted the radical change in the stadium as well as the incredible views from the different stands. Although their messages were positive, they also stated that works will continue until the end of 2019. However, improvements in the works will be seen throughout the season.
The new 40,000-capacity stadium, created by architect Jonathan Chanca, is currently in the process of the development of the exterior. After installing over 5,800m2 of the internal transparent canopy ring, the facade works have now commenced. The blue cladding panels, which will cover an area of 1,8500m2, are currently being installed.
The chosen material is an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene membrane best known as ETFE or EFTE. It is attached to aluminium brackets and adopts its final form through tension via stainless steel tensile cables. This plastic material presents outstanding weathering and fire resistance properties. In addition its particular lightness allows for a simpler structural support strategy.
A material thickness of 300microns has been specified for Anoeta with a transparency factor of 25%.
Spanish stadium seating and bleachers company, Insitual, a brand of Daplast, are installing their Avatar product at the new stadium. The tip-up stadium seat, designed for first-class sports facilities, won a RedDot Design Award in 2016, rewarding its modern and elegant design, acclaimed as the best design in its category.
Daplast Insitual is a long-standing VIP Sponsor of Sports Venue Business (SVB). To find out more about their stadium seating and bleachers product range, simply click on their banner below…
