JOB OF THE WEEK: Medical Education Manager, Northern Hemisphere, World Rugby

The role

World Rugby wishes to employ a part-time Medical Education Manager for the northern hemisphere.  In line with World Rugby’s Strategic Plan, the role holders will be responsible for the further development and delivery of World Rugby’s medical education programme: at the heart of this programme is developing and deploying a suitably qualified regional workforce of World Rugby master trainers, trainers and educators and delivering a needs-based regional training programme across World Rugby’s training portfolio.

Principal Accountabilities

Needs Analysis and Global Planning

• Undertake a global needs analysis for medical education.
• Work with regional associations and Unions to develop and realize their plans.
• Ensure each union has sufficiently qualified medical staff to drive high levels of pitch side care.

Workforce Development

• In conjunction with the regional training managers, grow the medical education workforce of medical trainers and medical educators on a global scale to meet strategic goals.
• Increase the number of World Rugby licenced medical trainers and educators across all six regional associations to achieve delivery targets in first aid in Rugby (L1FAIR), immediate care in rugby (L2ICIR) and advanced immediate care in Rugby (L3AICIR).
• Maintain currency of licenced medical trainers and educators through delivery of World Rugby’s quality assurance processes.
• Work with Tier 1 (those using World Rugby programmes), Tier 2, targeted development unions and regional associations to develop and implement appropriate workforce development programmes to enable their self-sufficiency in delivery of L1FAIR and L2ICIR.

Course Delivery

• Manage the delivery of L2ICIR & L3AICIR within regional associations, Tier 2 and targeted development unions.

Medical Commission Working Groups

• Contribute to the appropriate medical commission working group actions on request.
• Sit on the immediate pitch side care working group.

Competition Legacy

• Manage the delivery of medical education courses to ensure appropriate medical provision for participating teams in World Rugby competitions.
• Work at tournaments as tournament medical manager and/ or in delivery of legacy programmes for the local union

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified Healthcare professional (essential)
• Qualified Medical Doctor (desirable)
• Relevant national medical council registration
• At least 3 years relevant post qualification experience
• Active World Rugby licensed medical trainer
• At least 3 years’ experience of providing immediate pitch side care in a rugby environment
• Fluent English and a second language preferable

Project and Readiness Manager – Rugby World Cup 2019

The Project and Readiness Manager will be based in Tokyo, reporting to the Executive Director, RWC 2019.  This position will be employed on a fixed term contract of employment until 31 December 2019.

Job Holder Requirements:

The integral role of the Rugby World Cup 2019 Project and Readiness Manager is to liaise with Japan Rugby 2019 Organising Committee (JR2019) to oversee and ensure the sound methodology, as well as the integration of a combined tournament planning approach across JR2019 Functional Areas (FA) and relevant key tournament stakeholders for the first Rugby World Cup in Asia.

In support of the wider RWCL team the Project and Readiness Manager working closely with Japan Rugby 2019’s Central Management Group (CMG) and relevant Functional Areas (FA) will have primary responsibility for administering and tracking JR2019’s planning and delivery of key milestones, projects, actions and issues.  Further, the role holder will capture the reporting and escalation of any key items for awareness or identifying the status of issues and actions where relevant.

Key stakeholders include RWCL, World Rugby, the Japan Rugby 2019 Organising Committee, the Japan Rugby Football Union, local third parties and service providers, e.g. IGBS per Broadcast, STH Japan per Corporate Hospitality and Official Travel and Tours, IMG per commercial program etc.
