Oak View Group (OVG) have this week unveiled a collection of detailed renderings, providing a preview of the design and aesthetic for the Arena at Seattle Center.
Developed in collaboration with global design and architecture firm, Populous, the renderings reveal the look and flow on the Arena’s interior and exterior spaces. Additionally, the renderings illustrate how the Arena will both preserve the historic nature of the site and creatively celebrate its Seattle Center surroundings.
Francesca Leiweke-Bode, OVG President, said:
It’s so exciting to give people a detailed look into what we’re developing and show exactly how we plan to celebrate the historic roots of the Seattle Center through a venue that will also provide the very best arena experience for fans.
Kurt Amundsen, Principal at Populous, added:
Open, inviting and simply unforgettable while respecting the landmark history; these are the principles that continue to drive our design of the renovations to the Arena at Seattle Center. We are proud to be working with Oak View Group to re-define the arena as a world-class entertainment venue for the Northwest.
As highlighted in the recently revealed renderings, the new-look Arena at Seattle Center will showcase an expansive glass atrium – as per the image below – that provides a new lens through which the historic structure can be experienced.
The extensive US$600m renovation to the venue, formerly known as KeyArena, aims to reposition the venue as the premier sports and entertainment destination in the northwest. The design creates a stronger connection between the arena and the surrounding Seattle community through its extensive use of glass and features a completely redesigned interior with new clubs and social spaces, all while preserving the landmark history of the site.
A large pedestrian plaza will adorn the southeast corner for the Arena, giving fans a place to gather and enjoy views of the Seattle Center. Inside, the Space Needle club, situated on the upper deck, offers a vantage point to the action, and views to the atrium and iconic Seattle landmark – the Space Needle.
Under the historic arena roof, a new spectator experience awaits. An intimate 17,000-seat arena bowl (in hockey configuration) has been combined with diverse hospitality environments and state-of-the-art video displays amongst many other noteworthy features.
The news of the renderings follows the recent announcement of the NHL ticket on-sale for the Arena at Seattle Center. Beginning March 1 at 10am PT, Seattle area hockey fans will be able to make a refundable deposit for season tickets at: NHLSeattle.com
