Work gets underway on the 20,000-seat Batumi Stadium

Construction on the new Batumi Stadium kicked-off on January 21, 2018, as Bakar Jordania, Head of Club Licensing & Monitoring and Infrastructure Expert at the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) and GFF Education Programmes Manager, and friend of SVB reports.

Following a detailed evaluation process, which was completed in early 2016, the project was given the green light. Although it took some time to find a company to take charge of the construction works, now the tender process has been completed, commencement on the construction works could officially begin, with the ground works finally getting underway last month.
 
Zurab Pataradze, Head of the Adjara Government, said:
This is a historic project not only for the region but for the whole country. And Batumi Stadium will be the most modern stadium in Georgia.
The new venue will contribute in football/sport development, as well as support tourism and improve economic conditions in the region.

The construction works for Batumi Stadium, which has an expected overall budget of 99.5m GEL (approximately €33m), are being financed by the Ministry of Finances and Economics of the Adjara Region.
The Main Contractor for the project is local construction company, Anagi; the winner of the tender process, with the stadium’s stunning design having been delivered by Bahadir Kul Architects (BKA).
According to the approved project, the GFF will have a 20,000-capacity, UEFA category 4 stadium, by September 2020.
Upon completion, Batumi Stadium’s main tenant will be FC Dinamo Batumi, who will move from their current home at the Chele Arena, the venue will also play host to other cultural events.
