The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames has this week granted planning consent for a major new extension to the home of England Rugby, Twickenham Stadium.
The extension, designed by KSS, will see the first significant development of the Stadium since the South Stand was completed in 2008 and provides over 11,600sqm of hospitality and debenture holders across six levels.
The extension will enable hospitality to be accommodated within the Stadium, while not increasing the overall capacity.
Each level will be distinctive in its design, celebrating and bringing to life the unique aspects of the home of England Rugby, while also delivering a bespoke hospitality experience for guests.
The project is scheduled to start in Spring 2017.
Phased works
KSS have been the lead architects and designers for the major refurbishment programme at Twickenham Stadium – a venue etched into rugby’s DNA and the host of last year’s Rugby World Cup final – since 2011. This included a complete redesign of the players’ areas including the dressing rooms, medical suite, three floors of VIP hospitality and boxes, the Royal Box area and the new restyled players’ tunnel.
