Construction preparations continue apace on Tokyo 2020 Games venues

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has published a construction status update, including new photo and film materials, chronicling the venue construction progress being made towards a successful Games.

Preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Games remain on track. Construction of major new permanent venues, which will serve the people of Tokyo for decades to come, such as the Olympic Stadium and Tokyo Aquatics Centre, are around 60% complete. Meanwhile, Sea Forest Waterway, Kasai Canoe Slalom Course, Yumenoshima Park Archery Field and Olympic and Paralympic Village are more than 70% complete.

Though the completion date of a section of the Canoe Slalom Centre due to be used for operation and management has recently been postponed, the revised construction schedule will have no impact on preparations for the Games or the hosting of test events.

The IOC confirmed their satisfaction with overall progress during the visit of their Coordination Commission to Tokyo in December, 2018.

Commission Chair, John Coates, commented at the time of the IOC Coordination Commission’s visit:

I can only reiterate what IOC President Thomas Bach said during his recent and seventh visit: these Olympic Games will bring people together in a spirit of hope and determination. All of the ingredients for success are here. Venues are on time, stakeholders are engaged, and you can feel the power of sport everywhere.
