JOB OF THE WEEK: Chief Executive Officer at St. George Illawarra Dragons

We’re delighted to be able to advise about the latest ‘Job of the Week’, powered by GlobalSportsJobs, which is for a Chief Executive Officer at St. George Illawarra Dragons.

St. George Illawarra Dragons is an iconic brand within Australian sport. The Club actively and authentically engages with its community and is richly supported with heritage and tradition that stretches back to 1921.

The Dragons compete in the NRL, NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg U20s. They also field teams through St. George and Illawarra Steelers in the SG Ball Cup, Harold Matthews Cup and the Tarsha Gale Cup.

The Club announced in February that Chief Executive Officer, Peter Doust, had made the decision to retire from his role at the end of the 2018 season, enabling the Club to determine and implement an appropriate succession plan. Peter has been the St. George Illawarra Dragons Chief Executive Officer since 2000 and is the longest serving Chief Executive Officer of any Club in the NRL.

The St. George Illawarra Dragons Board now seeks a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation, driving and delivering the strategic and operational plans. Given the profile of the St. George Illawarra Dragons and the scale of its operations, this role is clearly one of the most highly prized sport-business positions in Australia.

As the senior executive, the Chief Executive Officer is required to represent the St. George Illawarra Dragons at the highest levels including NRL, government, commercial partners, media, members and stakeholder family to drive and articulate the strategic aims and business direction of the organisation with confidence and integrity.

To be considered for this role you will need to be a dynamic and collaborative leader, with the ability to engage and develop lasting, positive relationships with strategic business partners and a range of stakeholders including commercial partners and members. You will need to demonstrate a successful track record in managing like-sized businesses, budgets and resources, delivering against strategic objectives and driving business development.

Your commercial acumen will be matched by your sound judgment, creative decision making capability, integrity, political maturity and the capacity to negotiate the best possible outcomes for the achievement of strategic objectives whilst able to win support and engagement of the diverse stakeholder family.

This is an outstanding opportunity. We’d like to hear from you if you believe you have what it takes to lead this iconic sporting franchise. All enquiries will be dealt with in strict confidence.
