JOB OF THE WEEK (JOTW): Operational Risk Manager at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships

We are delighted to be able to bring you details on this week’s featured ‘Job of the Week’ (JOTW), which is for an Operational Risk Manager at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

 

The Glasgow 2018 European Championships is a new multi-sport event which will be held in Glasgow and Berlin in the summer of 2018. More than 8,000 athletes, officials and media are expected in Glasgow and Scotland with a potential television audience of more than one billion.

 

Funded jointly by the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council, this new event will be organised in partnership with the international and national sports federations for each of the participating sports. The Glasgow 2018 European Championships will allow Glasgow and Scotland to continue to build on the economic, cultural and sporting legacy achieved by staging the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

 

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Programme Management Office for an Operational Risk Manager in the planning and delivery of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. This is a key role within the team, helping to define and implement operational risk management processes across the Championships Team.

 

Working within an experienced and well-established PMO, the role holder will drive good practice in terms of ‘Championships Time’ operational risk identification, documentation and mitigation. This includes leading and coordinating the process of preparing key Contingency Plans for significant risks. This is a hands on role: we are not looking for an analyst.

 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of the inaugural edition of this exciting event as it makes its world sporting calendar debut.

 

The successful candidate will be based at Commonwealth House, 32 Albion Street, Glasgow, Scotland.

 

This is a fixed term opportunity of circa six months.

Job description

The role:  

Glasgow 2018 European Championships requires an Operational Risk Manager for a circa 6 month fixed term contract from February 2018. The primary objective of the role is to define, implement and operate operational risk management processes across the Championships Team.

 

Risk management and tools are well established in the organisation:  the role holder will drive good practice in terms of ‘Championships Time’ operational risk identification, documentation and mitigation. This includes leading and coordinating the process of preparing key Contingency Plans for significant risks. This is a hands on role: we are not looking for an analyst.

 

The person:

Ideally you will combine strong operational risk management skills with experience of major events, preferably multi-sport events.  You will have strong management skills and be comfortable leading groups of people. Running workshops and challenging plans and assumptions are all activities you can deliver robustly.

 

Another requirement is the ability to assess/prioritise risks and ensure that teams focus on the ‘right’ areas. You will be able to drive a process to a defined timetable and support teams in order that they meet deadlines. Effective communication skills are crucial and strong IT skills are also a pre-requisite.

 

Skills / experience:

Essential:

  • Proven track record of leading the definition and delivery of Operational Risk Management processes
  • Experience of working on multi-sport events
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to drive a process and influence others to meet quality standards and deadlines
  • Experience in clearly documenting risks and contingency plans
  • Strong IT skills including risk management software and excel

 

Preferable:

  • Risk management qualifications
  • Experience with Pentana (previously Covalent) software system

 

Remuneration:
